Spice Market

All the flavours and aromas of the East are here, and although you’ll come across jewellers’ shops that opened after the renovation in 1943, don’t let it interfere with your appreciation of the Turkish delight with hazelnuts, the one with pistachios or the coffee from Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi. In contrast to the fluctuating prices at the Grand Bazaar, the prices of spices are fixed and sometimes even marked – which doesn’t prevent the saffron being ever more diluted and adulterated. Don’t miss a visit to the flower and bird market, outside on the left. A bit farther on, there are stalls specializing in cages and brushes, as well as utensils made of local wood.
